Vada Recipe

Vada Recipe - A simple South Indian snack made by deep frying Urad Dal rounds. You can make it ready in 20 minutes.

Recipe Ingredients

* Urad Dal (Split Black Gram) - 1 cup

* Refined Oil - For Deep Frying

* Dry Red Chillies - 2

* Green Chillies - 3

* Ginger, 1" piece - 1

* Asafoetida (hing) - A Pinch

* Salt to taste

Preparation

First soak the urad dal for 2 hours. Drain and grind the gram with the remaining ingredients (except oil) to a smooth batter. Divide equally and shape into rounds (traditionally these are circular with a small hole in the middle) on a banana leaf or on your palm.

Take a kadai(wok) and heat oil in it. Once it hot, carefully lower the rounds, in small batches and deep fry till they turn crisp and golden brown. Remove and drain the excess oil on a absorbent tissue paper.

Serve hot with Sambhar and coconut chutney.
