Urad Dal or White Dal preparation in India is normally of two types. One with traditional spices and second with cream or yogurt. Below recipe is of first one type.
In a bowl wash Dal and soak in water for 15 minutes. Then boil it with 3 to 4 cups of water until done. Remove excess water.
Take a pan and heat oil in it. Fry chopped onions along with cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and coriander seeds. Once seeds starts sputtering add ginger garlic paste, tomatoes, green chillies, red chilli powder, salt and fry these for few minutes.
Pour this spices mixture to the dal and cook on medium flame. Add water as required. Put little salt, garam masala and cook for 2 to 3 more minutes and dal is ready to serve.
Garnish with Coriander Leaves.
