Upma Recipe

Upma Recipe - Dry roasted Rava (Suji or Semolina) and cooked with vegetables and other few spices. This dish is ideal when you want to take a light breakfast.



Recipe Ingredients

* Rava (Semolina) - 1 cup
* Cooking Oil - 3 tsp
* Desi Ghee - 2 tsp
* Green Peas - 1/4 cup
* Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
* Split Black Gram (Urad Dal) - 1/2 tsp
* Cashew Nuts (Kaju) - 8

* Asafoetida (hing) - A Pinch
* Ginger, chopped 1 inch - 1
* Curry Leaves - 5
* Green Chillies, chopped - 2
* Green Coriander, chopped - A small bunch
* Salt to taste


Preparation

First dry roast the rava in a pan till light brown. Keep aside.

In a kadai(wok), heat the oil and ghee. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cashew nuts, hing, ginger, green chillies and curry leaves. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes.

Pour 2 cups of water into the Kadai. Add salt and green peas and bring the mixture to a boil. Add rava, stirring constantly so that it does not form lumps. Remove from heat when all the water is absorbed and the mixture is cooked.

Serve garnished with green coriander and accompanied with coconut chutney.
