Thakkali Sadam - South Indian Recipe of Tomato Rice. Make it ready in 15 minutes and enjoy with Rasam and Papad.
Recipe Ingredients
* Basmati Rice - 2 cups * Tomatoes - 5 * Refined Oil - 2 tbsp * Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp * Cumin Seeds - 1/4 tsp * Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp * Onions, chopped - 2 * Green Chillies, chopped - 2 * Curry Leaves - 4 * Asafoetida (hing) - A Pinch * Green Coriander, chopped - A small bunch * Red Chilli Powder - 1/4 tsp * Salt to taste
Preparation
First wash the rice in clean water and cook in pressure cooker till two whistles and keep aside to let it cool down.
Take a kadai (wok) and heat oil in it. Once it is hot add mustard seeds. As seeds start spluttering add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves, tomatoes, onions and green chillies. Stir well and cook covered.
When the water evaporates, stir in the red chilli powder, hing and salt. Mix in the rice and serve garnished with green coriander.
Enjoy with Rasam and Poppadum.
