Tarka Dal

Tarka Dal or Dal Fry is the most sought after Dal in north India. Amongst all Dal Recipes this very Traditional Indian dish can be made along with any other sabzi.



You can relish it either with Rice or with Chapati.

Recipe Ingredients

* Toor Dal - 1 cup
* Cooking Oil - 2 tbsp
* Onion (chopped) - 1
* Tomatoes (chopped) - 2
* Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
* Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
* Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
* Fenugreek Seeds - 1/4 tsp
* Coriander Seeds - 1/2 tsp
* Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
* Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
* Green Chillies (chopped) - 2
* Garam Masala - 1 tsp
* Salt to taste

Preparation

In a bowl wash Toor Dal and soak in water for 30 minutes. Then pressure cook it with 2 to 3 cups of water. After 3 whistles stop the gas.

Take a pan and heat oil in it. Fry chopped onions along with cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and coriander seeds. Once seeds starts sputtering add ginger garlic paste, tomatoes, green chillies, red chilli powder, salt and fry these for few minutes.

Pour this spices mixture to the dal and cook on medium flame. Add water as required. Put little salt, garam masala and cook for 2 to 3 more minutes and dish is ready to serve.
