Shalgam or Turnip is commonly used as a salad ingredient, however you can combine it with lamb pieces to make a tasty dish. Serve it along with Basmati Rice and some gravy dish like Vegetable Kofta to make a rich experience. Being rich in Vitamin C and K, this turnip dish is very nutritious also. Make it with stuffed aloo paratha and curd and enjoy in chilles winters.
* Shalgam (turnip) - 1 kg * Soft breast Lamb Pieces - 1 kg * Ginger Powder (Sonth Powder) - 2 tbsp * Aniseed Powder (Saunf Powder) - 4 tbsp * Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp * Red Chili Powder - 1/2 tsp * Turmeric Powder - 1 tbsp * Mustard Oil - 5 tbsp * Cloves - 5 * Salt to taste
Take a pressure cooker and put mustard oil in it and heat it for 15 to 20 minutes. Add lamb pieces, cloves, cumin seeds, red chili and salt. Stir for 5 to 6 minutes to mix properly.
Now add turnip and turmeric till lamb and turnip blend well with the spices.
Add a glass of water, ginger powder and saunf powder. Boil for 10 to 12 minutes and stir occasionally. After this add two more glasses of water and close the lid of the pressure cooker. Wait for 4 whistles, check if the lamb pieces are cooked. If not cook for another 10 minutes.
Once cooked , open the lid and let the dish cool down before serving it with ready rice.
