Onion Curry

Onion Curry recipe is more popular in southern part of India. It is also made with lot of varieties using coconut, tomatoes etc. Cooking Onions in Indian dishes is mostly done in vegetable oil. This way the flavour is more aromatic and onion dishes comes out richer in taste.



Recipe Ingredients :

* Onions (cut to pieces) – 4
* Vegetable Oil – 5tbsps
* Turmeric Powder – 1 / 2 tsp
* Mustard Seeds – 1 / 2 tsp
* Lemon – 1 / 4 piece
* Hing (Asafoetida) – A Pinch
* Cumin Seeds – 1 / 2 tsp
* Jaggery – 2 tsp
* Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
* Cilantro Leaves – 4 to 5 leaves
* Curry Powder – 1 tsp
* Salt as per taste



Preparation :

First grind cilantro leaves, ginger garlic paste and cilantro leaves in a food processor and make a smooth spice paste.

Take a wok (kadai) and heat oil in it. Once it is hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. As seeds stop sputtering add hing, turmeric powder and spice paste. Let it cook for 2 to 3 minutes, then add cut onions to kadai. Cook till onions are soft. Then add curry powder, Jaggery, lemon juice and salt.

Mix all the ingredients, add water to get the desired consistency and cover the kadai with a lid and put the gas on medium flame. Let it cook for 6 to 7 minutes more.

Serve hot along with chapattis.
