Obbattu - Sweet Pooris made with Dal filling. This is a karnataka roti recipe in which jaggery is used for sweetness instead of sugar.
* Maida - 2 cups
* Jaggery (powdered) - 2 tbsp
* Desi Ghee (Clarified Butter) - 2 tsp
* Refined Oil - As required
* Chana Dal - 1 cup
* Powdered Jaggery - 1 cup
* Cardamom Powder - A Pinch
First sieve maida and add powdered jaggery. Mix properly and make a hole in the middle.
Pour desi ghee in it and mix well. Add 2 tsp of oil and sprinkle water a little at a time, as required. Knead into a smooth pliable dough. Smear a little oil over the dough and keep aside for 6 hours, covering it with a wet cloth.
Now prepare the filling by soaking chana dal for 2 hours. Pressure cook for 15 minutes. Drain water completely and grind dal in the food processor till fully mashed. Add jaggery and cardamom and grind once again till completely mixed. Keep aside.
Divide the dough into small balls. Roll into circular pooris and put 1 tbsp of filling in the centre of each poori. Close from all the edges, covering the filling totally to make a big ball again. Sprinkle a little maida and once again into a thin poori. Heat a dosa tawa and roast each poori on it. Pour a little ghee around it and cook till both sides are done. Before serving sprinkle a little hot ghee.
