Jalebi, a hot and yummy sweet from India is famous in whole of the world. Go to any market in India and you will find atleast one vendor selling this delicious mithai.

They can be eaten in breakfast along with glass of milk or after main meals to sweeten your mouth.

Recipe Ingredients

* Flour - 1/2 cup

* Gram Flour - 1 tsp

* Orange Food Colour - A Pinch

* Fine Sugar - 1/2 cup

* Cooking Oil - For frying

* Baking Powder - 1/2 tsp

* Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp

* Cardamom Powder - A Pinch

* Water


Take a bowl and dissolve baking powder in water (1 tsp). Add to this flour, gram flour, sugar(1/2 tsp) and orange colour. Mix well with a spoon. Then add little water (2 tbsp).

Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth batter. Cover the bowl and leave it aside for 2 hours to ferment.

Then make one string sugar syrup. In a mid size pan mix half cup of sugar in half cup of water. Add lemon juice, cardamom powder and saffron to it. Boil the sugar water and let it remain on medium flame. Keep moving the syrup frequently.

Take a kadai(wok) and heat oil on medium flame. The oil quantity should be 3 to 4 inches from the bottom of kadai. Then fill the batter in a cloth (with a small hole in the bottom). You can use ketchup bottle also. Squeeze out gently the batter on the heating oil. Make a round circular motion of the batter. Cook for 1 or 2 minutes in the oil till batter turns little brown from both sides.

Add cooked jalebis to hot sugar syrup. Let them remain in syrup for a minute or so. Ensure they absorb sugar syrup properly and take them out on the serving plate.
