Dal Dhokli

Dal Dhokli - A traditional dish popular in Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan. Cook it yourself by using this simple recipe.



Recipe Ingredients

* Arhar Dal (Split Red Gram) - 250g
* Wheat Flour - 1 1/2 cup
* Chana Dal Flour - 1/2 cup
* Cooking Oil - 5 tbsp
* Desi Ghee - 1 tbsp
* Tomato Puree - 2 tbsp
* Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
* Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
* Cloves - 3
* Asafoetida - a pinch
* Green Chillies (cut) - 3
* Groundnut (unroasted and skin removed) - 12
* Garam Masala - 1 tsp
* Turmeric Powder - 2 tsp
* Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
* Cumin Powder - 1 tsp
* Cinnamon Stick 1" - 1
* Tamarind Pulp - 1 tbsp
* Curry Leaves - 4
* Jaggery - 1 tbsp
* Salt to taste
* Water - 3 cups



Preparation

First clean and soak Arhar Dal for 30 minutes. Pressure cook it in a cooker for 20 minutes for 2 to 3 whistles.

Take a medium size boil and mix wheat flour, chana flour, cooking oil(2 tbsp), turmeric powder(1 tsp), red chilli powder(1/2 tsp), cumin powder, salt (1 tsp) and water as per requirement to make a smooth dough. Keep it aside.

In a kadai(wok) heat oil (3 tbsp). Once it is hot add cumin seeds. As they start spluttering add turmeric powder(1 tsp), asafoetida powder, red chilli powder(1 tsp) and dal into the oil.

Sauté for few minutes. Add water, salt (1 tsp), green chillies, curry leaves,cinnamon, tomato puree, jaggery, tamarind, and groundnuts. Boil the Dal on a medium flame.

Now roll out chapatis of the dough. Cut the chapatis in to square shape. Add them to boiling dal and let them cook for 5 to 10 minutes.

Serve hot after garnishing with coriander leaves.
