Chana Masala (or Channa Masala) is a spicy Punjabi dish. It is also prepared in langar in many of the Gurudwaras and served as a Prasad to the devotees.
Chana Recipe can be made dry or with gravy depending on taste. In our recipe we have chosen dish with little more gravy.
Recipe Ingredients
* White Chick Peas - 1 Cup
* Tomato (chopped) - Two
* Onion (chopped) - One
* Tea (wrapped in a cloth) - 1 tsp
* Green Chillies (chopped) - 2
* Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
* Garlic / Ginger Paste - 2tbsp
* Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp
* Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
* Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
* Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
* Oil - 2 tbsp
* Salt to taste
* Water as per requirement
Make Chana Masala
First soak Chanas overnight so that they absorb water and can be easily cooked. If you want to make the dish at dinner time then soak them early morning.
Boil these chanas along with salt and wrapped tea in a cooker and keep it separately. By 4 Whistles chanas will be soft and ready (remove tea cloth but don't remove water).
In a food processor put, chopped onions, tomatoes, ginger/garlic paste, green chillies and grind them to form a smooth paste.
Take oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, little onion and fry them till oil is separated. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and also grind paste in it and cook for 5 minutes while stirring it regularly.
Add chickpeas(with water) to the above masala mixture and cook on medium flame for 10 minutes till a gravy is formed. Garnish it with Coriander Leaves and tasty dish is ready.
