Bengali Fish Curry - This dish can be categorized as the most popular Bengali Food. Normally it is prepared in every Bengali home every second or third day.
Recipe Ingredients
* Pomfret Fish - 2
* Mustard Oil - For Frying
* Mustard Seeds - 2 tbsp
* Onion (chopped) - 1
* Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
* Turmeric Powder - 2 tsp
* Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
* Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
* Green Chillies (cut) - 2
* Coriander Leaves - For garnishing
* Lime Juice - 2 tbsp
* Salt to taste
Preparation
First clean the fish and cut both into slices. Take each slice and marinate salt, lemon juice and turmeric powder and keep aside for half an hour.
Take a kadai(wok) and heat mustard oil(1 or 2 tbsp) in it. Once it is hot shallow fry fish slices in it for 30 seconds and then keep them aside.
Make Mustard Paste by grinding mustard seeds with enough quantity of water and green chillies. Grind to make paste like consistency.
In the same kadai(wok) heat mustard oil (4 to 5 tbsp). Once it is hot add mustard paste, onion, ginger garlic paste. Stir fry till onions turn little brown. Add turmeric powder (1/2 tsp), and water (quantity as per choice). Add fried fish and mix all the ingredients gently. Sprinkle Red Chilli Powder and coriander powder and mix again.
Stir fry on a slow flame until fish is cooked and oil is floating on top. Take the wok off the flame and serve hot after garnishing with coriander leaves.
